Gastrodin is widely used in the treatment of dizziness, paralysis, epilepsy, stroke and dementia, and exhibits a neuroprotective effect.

China has performed extensive studies on Gastrodin in 2011-2012 for the treatment of spinal cord injuries and effort to regenerate neurons.

It was found that Gastrodin significantly contributes to the recovery of neurological function in rats, promotes the secretion of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the injured spinal cord and stabilization of the microenvironment following spinal cord injury.

Dosage

Recommendations varz but most sources suggest 250mg taken once daily.

Side-Effects

Gastrodin is generallz well tolerated and no significant side-effects were reported. In higher doses however, Gastrodin can cause stomach distress, nausea and headache.
